Fabric History/Pedigree: 1930s,-1950s Deadstock, never used, Japanese vintage Kasuri (ikat) cotton kimono fabric.
Fabric Description:
Kasuri (ikat), lightweight, slightly translucent, stiff; very dark indigo (almost black) background color fabric with a reticular/lattice pattern comprised of diagonally arranged figures, allmeasuringno more than .5 inches/ 12.7mm at longest dimension; colors of designs are very pale-aqua-blue and some blue-gray colors in the intersecting lines;(Please see close-ups); same on both sides.

Notes:
This is an unused Japanese country vintage fabric called kasuri (also called ikat in Southeast Asia ); Kasuri is a labor-intensive process where patterns are made by pre-dyed paste resistance and varying techniques are used to create the sorts of patterns seen here. a Japanese word for fabric that has been woven with fibers dyed specifically to create patterns and images in the fabric. It is an ikat technique. Kasuri is weft ikat; the warp threads are solid color, and the weft thread is resist-tied in a specific pattern and dyed with indigo to form a picture when the cloth is woven.
